Obverse: King in majesty seated on a throne with sceptre. The throne is flanked by two shields with lions rampant and two lions crouch at the base of the throne. Four annulets are visible, two above the throne and two below, to either side of the king's feet. Much of the legend has worn off, but the visible portion reads: 'IACOBVS DEI GRACIA REX SCOTORUM' (James, by the grace of God, King of Scots).&#13;

Reverse: Arabesque foliage backgrounds an image of the king on horseback, charging with raised sword and shield emblazoned with the lion rampant. One annulet is visible on the hind part of the caparison.</text>
